Hey Everyone!
Of course everything seemed to go wrong yesterday; but maybe it was for the best?? Pat and I headed over with Jess yesterday morning to get her port put in for Chemo on Friday. We were there on time, but the doctor was running late with another surgery. We waited and waited...until about 230. They came in and put an IV in her, which took forever because she has very small deep veins and they started her on antibiotics. She had not eaten since the night before so she was very hungry and thirsty. Finally the doctor came in and said that she was up next and he apologized for the delay. Then they got her ready to go. I went outside with Pat since were were going to eat lunch and take the dogs for a walk. Then my phone rings and they told me that they can't do the surgery's and I need to go back in. Of course my heart is pumping and I am almost freaking out. I went back into the heart department and they said that the cancer center had called and they found a bacteria (staph) infection in Jessi's picc lines. So that stopped them from doing the surgery.
Wow! If the doctor had been on time he would have already cut her open. So the Lord was looking out for her. :) We had to go to the cancer center so they could check her out and take more blood, but I told Pat to go through a drive through so we could eat because there wasn't any telling how long all of this could take and she was looking a little blah. Of course they call and wonder where we all are...oh well, we thought, let them wait ten minutes for once. Before they know it they are asking us what hospital they want her admitted to, so we picked Rogue Valley. The nurses in the heart department had told us how good the oncology department was; if last night was any indication...they are very awesome. We really liked how they all were :) They did a heart test to make sure that the bacteria didn't get into her heart and checked her blood. It looks like they caught it early. Whew! They are going to do an ultrasound on her arm though because it was pretty swollen and Jess said that it was hot this morning. They are a little worried about blood clots; we should know about those results later. I will keep you all informed. They said it would probably be about 3 days in the hospital with antibiotics. Please keep her in your prayers. Love to all, Cindi
Hi Cindi,
ReplyDeleteWow! What a day! I am so glad for the delay and firmly believe that everything happens for a reason - it's God's will. He is always looking out for us and has Jess's best interests at heart. I can't imagine the emotional rollercoaster all of this has you on, but please remember that we are praying for Jess and all of you.
Prayers, love, and warm hugs,
Kimberley, Richard, and Morgan
