April 30th

Hi All,

Just got home from Jessi's chemo in Medford. I had the day off because I cut my finger pretty badly at work yesterday. I can't get it wet and to tell you the truth it throbbed all night and it does off and on during the day, so I am home until Monday. They made me get a tetanus shot in my shoulder and that hurts too, but enough about me and back to Jess. We got to Medford about 830 this morning and Jess is still pretty sore from her port surgery so we didn't think that they would do anything today. We figured that it would just be a blood draw and checkup...but of course they did that and then gave her two types of chemo today. The one is hard on your heart so she had to sign a waiver to get it; so that is pretty scary. They did a checkup on her heart and of course it came out good. Better be for a 21 year old! The other chemo she had before so we didn't worry there. Both of them were pretty quick to go in. We weren't there very long with her getting chemo and anti nausea medicine. They used her new port and it ended up being sore still so they iced it. She said it was like a bee sting on her chest when he put the needle in, but she didn't feel anything when they took it out. Then we had to go pick up her new steroid pills. She is now on a pretty good sized dosage for a week now. She wasn't very excited, but they said they will really help with everything. She has a list of things to look out for with her chemo, so we will keep an eye on it. Please keep her in your prayers. She will have the same chemo again next Friday. Love to all, Cindi

April 28th

Hi All,

Jon just got a hold of me and Jess got out of her surgery to get her port put in her chest. He said that the nurses did very well. They had her in there for almost 2 hours. She has to stay in the heart recovery room for another two hours until they feel she is able to come home. The port is really close to the heart in the artery. Hopefully everything goes okay and she is home around 8 pm. She had text me this morning and hadn't slept at all last night. She said that the antibiotics kept her up and she couldn't find her sleeping pills. So of course this morning she was over tired and had an upset stomach...but felt better after she threw up. I am wondering if she had a case of the nerves. Her doctor called yesterday and she has an appointment on Friday morning now. I am wondering if they want to get started on the chemo. That is all for now; I will keep you all informed. Thanks for checking in!! Please keep her in your prayers.

Love to all!! Cindi

4/26

Hi Everyone!

Jess got released from the hospital yesterday! She was very happy and so were we :) Since the staph infection hadn't traveled anywhere else and the culture they took didn't grow they felt it was safe to send her on her way...just with lots of antibiotics. She is looking really good and they let her know what signs to look for if it came back or got worst: headache, chest pain, shortness of breath, pounding heart, and purple lips or finger nails. Wow! I was like seriously?? She told them about her gall bladder but they didn't seem worried about it. They are just keeping an eye on her heart (which I am thankful). The cancer center called today and said that they are going to do her port on Weds since the cultures are still good. I am glad but a little nervous. Jon said that he will take her, so I will sit at home and pace, lol. That is all for now. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for checking. Please keep her in your prayers. Love to all, Cindi

April 25th

Hi Everyone!

It sure has been a really long weekend. No rest for the wicked they say :) So far all of Jess' other tests have came back negatives; so it looks like they caught the staph infection right when it was starting. That is happy, happy news! I walked in yesterday and she looked so good that it made my heart light up :) They are still a little worried about her arm for some reason...it looks so much better, but they still think that it is a little swollen and they had her put a heating pad on/off of it all day yesterday. They did an ultrasound on it and they didn't see any blood clots, which is a good sign. Today will be her third full day of antibiotics and that is what they wanted. We are hoping that they would put her port in before she left, but they said they wanted her on a full week of antibiotics before they start chemo. That puts us behind on when we go back to Portland in June. That is okay since it doesn't really matter at this point to me. Hopefully they will let her out of the hospital today. She is really hoping so. I will let you all know. Please keep her in your prayers! God Bless, Cindi

April 23, 2010

Hey Everyone!

Of course everything seemed to go wrong yesterday; but maybe it was for the best?? Pat and I headed over with Jess yesterday morning to get her port put in for Chemo on Friday. We were there on time, but the doctor was running late with another surgery. We waited and waited...until about 230. They came in and put an IV in her, which took forever because she has very small deep veins and they started her on antibiotics. She had not eaten since the night before so she was very hungry and thirsty. Finally the doctor came in and said that she was up next and he apologized for the delay. Then they got her ready to go. I went outside with Pat since were were going to eat lunch and take the dogs for a walk. Then my phone rings and they told me that they can't do the surgery's and I need to go back in. Of course my heart is pumping and I am almost freaking out. I went back into the heart department and they said that the cancer center had called and they found a bacteria (staph) infection in Jessi's picc lines. So that stopped them from doing the surgery.

Wow! If the doctor had been on time he would have already cut her open. So the Lord was looking out for her. :) We had to go to the cancer center so they could check her out and take more blood, but I told Pat to go through a drive through so we could eat because there wasn't any telling how long all of this could take and she was looking a little blah. Of course they call and wonder where we all are...oh well, we thought, let them wait ten minutes for once. Before they know it they are asking us what hospital they want her admitted to, so we picked Rogue Valley. The nurses in the heart department had told us how good the oncology department was; if last night was any indication...they are very awesome. We really liked how they all were :) They did a heart test to make sure that the bacteria didn't get into her heart and checked her blood. It looks like they caught it early. Whew! They are going to do an ultrasound on her arm though because it was pretty swollen and Jess said that it was hot this morning. They are a little worried about blood clots; we should know about those results later. I will keep you all informed. They said it would probably be about 3 days in the hospital with antibiotics. Please keep her in your prayers. Love to all, Cindi

April 20th

Hello All,

Jess and Rob went to Medford about 1130 this morning. Her spinal was set for 130. Of course they didn't get to her until about 230 and she was release until about 400 this afternoon. She said everything went well, considering. The doctor she had wasn't her favorite but he was her second, so she was pretty happy he got the needle in her spine right the first time!! Yay!! All in all it was a pretty smooth day. By the time they got home (around 530) she was starting to get pretty exhausted. Rob said that she slept all the way home, but I am sure she will crash tonight. She also said that her gall bladder wasn't hurting as much and she has been drinking a ton of fluids. I also heard from my friend Chris that if you drink apple cider vinegar with water it flushes the gall bladder. So I think she is going to try it. I looked it up on the internet and it said the same thing. Sure it can't hurt trying. Her arm is looking a little irritated so we put some antibiotic ointment on it tonight and I sent her home with some aloe vera lotion for it later. Please keep her in your prayers. She can't eat after midnight tomorrow since she is getting the port put in her chest on Thursday. Pat and I are going to take her over. Thanks everyone!! XOXO, Cindi

April 19th

Today was a typical Monday...Jess and Jon headed to Medford early this morning and even though she had an appointment scheduled, they didn't have the results or protocol for the next two months. You would have thought that even though Portland didn't send them that they would have requested them?? Hmm...oh well I guess. Must not have been meant to be. Then she went across the street to get her PICC lines cleaned and changed. The nurse there thought that it might be getting infected, so she pulled them all out!! Then they called Jess' doctor, in Medford, to see what had happened. The doctor was irritated because she had gotten the orders from Portland for chemo and she couldn't do it because Jess didn't have her lines in anymore. The chemo would burn right through the little veins and skin so she needed a new port. That kind of upset me when I heard that because that is what they are putting in her body...but I can't let it bother me. I am trying to think positive because of how much they have already done. They came home and they said that they would call her and before she knew it she had two appointments. Tomorrow she has spinal chemo at 130 and then on Thursday she is getting her new port put in and it is like having surgery so she can't eat or drink the night before; it is going into her chest. Jess is happy about it because it gives her a lot more freedom with showering and she doesn't have to worry about it getting caught on stuff or getting dirty. This one is actually under the skin! She of course is worried about the procedure so she asked me to please take her that day. So of course I am. I will keep you all informed. Thanks! Please keep her in your prayers. Love to all, Cindi

April 18th

Hi Everyone!

Well Jess gave us quite a scare. I asked her if we could please knock off going to the hospital...lol. She ended up getting to our house about 1245 am on Sat morning. The doctor ended up doing a lot of tests on her abdomen. He said that her gallbladder was full of sludge?? I looked it up and it can be serious if not taken care of. It can be caused by a few things, but when I was reading I noticed that it can be caused by medications used for abdomen tumors, not eating healthy, and not enough fluids. That is right up Jessi's alley. The doctor sent her home with pain meds and muscle relaxers just to keep her from being in pain until she sees her doctor in Medford tomorrow. I am kind of anxious to hear what she has to say. I don't like the thought of Jess having surgery; so we need to get this taken care of. She says that she went and got a lot of healthy foods and has been drinking a lot of fluids. Hopefully we can get this cleared so she can get started on her chemo. We want to get it started so that the two months are done and over with as soon as possible. They have to be over there by 8 am so it will be an early day for them. I will let you know what the plan is. We are going to have two long months so please keep her in your prayers. Love to all, Cindi.

April 16th-Friday

Hello Everyone,

We just got home from the ER. Jess has been feeling pretty well lately as the last chemo has wore off. She has just been tired on and off if she over does it. I think it has a lot to do with getting her strength built back up. We were at the track meet tonight and she was sitting beside me when she said, "Mom, I am getting a bad chest pain." Wow, that surprised me since she has been doing so well lately. By the time we got into my car and headed to Klamath she was in a full blown sweat and said that she was in a lot of pain. I was starting to get pretty scared by then and started to make a few calls. She got all stretched out in her seat and it started to ease up some, so I stopped at the house to get Pat and drop of Dixie (my dog). Then it started to get bad again, so we hurried. The ER, of course, was crazy since it was Friday night. I guess they got her in quickly to do an EKG and then we waited a few minutes to get her into a room. We told them about her medical history so that they would speed things up. Then they did blood work, heart monitor, chest xray, and fluids. Everything came back looking pretty good except her liver levels. The doctor came in and said that it might be her gall bladder. But it would be a few more hours to get it all checked out...then we could go home with meds and test tomorrow (Sat). Jess didn't want to do that since she and Jon live in Malin. I asked her after the doctor left and she said that the pain had been so bad that it scared her to leave and go that far without checking it out. Pat and I came home and Jon said that he would let us know. The doctor said that if it was bad she might have to have surgery to take it out....so, we will just wait and see. I will let you know what they find out. Please keep her in your prayers.

Love to all,

Cindi

April 8th

Hello Everyone!!

To those of you who don't know me today; it is my birthday!!! I was very excited about it since all I wanted is for Jess to be cancer free....guess what?? She is in remission!!!! It was a very amazing day!! :)

We drove to Portland on Tuesday night and Jess had an MRI and PET scans done. Then we met with the doctor today. Of course he was running a little late. The waiting room was full, and we were all nervous and sick to our stomachs, waiting....Finally we got called in and then of course he asked her all kinds of questions and gave her a check up before he let us know. I just wanted to shake him, lol. He was very excited about the results too. It was an awesome feeling. The nurse afterwords told us that it was very very good for Jess to have responded like this and to keep going with the chemo (like that was an option). She said that they had a lady in remission that quit everything and the outcome was not good.

Jess has two months of intense chemo and then two years of lighter maintenance chemo. They want to make sure that they killed it and it stays gone. She starts chemo again on April 19th. Then 8 weeks later we have to come back to Portland to get her scans done again, to make sure everything is still on track. That is it. I can't thank everyone enough for their love and support!!! I will continue to keep you informed over the next two months and then we will just go from there. Please keep her in your prayers.

Love to all,
Cindi

April 3rd

Hello All,

Jess has had a rough couple of days. She has had bad cramps in her intestine and stomach. She has us worried that she might be getting another infection, like the one that landed her in the hospital a couple months ago (for about a week). So we are keeping a close eye on her and taking her temperature. We called the doctor and let them know, but unless she gets worse or gets a temperature they seem to be okay with it. She also threw up a couple of times last night, so I am not sure what that is all about. I told her to take one of her anti nausea pills; hopefully that will help. They already have her on a lot of medicine for infection, so hopefully it helps her out. I will let you know how it goes. Tuesday is the big day...heading to Portland for tests and results on Thursday. I have to admit that I am already getting a little nervous, but praying lots and keeping positive. Please keep her in your prayers. Love to all, Cindi

PS Rob is heading to Kyrgyzstan (I think that is how it is spelt, lol), for 6 months. He won't leave until Dec. I asked him if I needed anymore stress and he just smiled at me...kids! They say it really isn't a bad place to be stationed, but as a mother any place but home is bad to me. That is one more thing to put on my shoulders. I wish stress on me meant losing weight! I would be a stick!! lol
